The crew had just one goal: reach the final and face Girton M1, the boat they will be chasing on the first day of May Bumps!

Darwin first raced against Sydney and easily beat them. The second race against Downing confirmed that Darwin was in a great form. In the final, they didn't give much chance to Girton. After a good start, they quickly distanced them and won by 2 lengths.

DCBC M1 win the Radegund Mile!
Today was another day in the epic history of Darwin College Boat Club!

As one of the first colleges back on the river this term, Darwin was represented by two men's eights in the Radegund Mile. It was M2's first race of the term and they finished with a respectable 6min 28s.

M1 became the third fastest crew on the river and won the cup for the fastest university crew. They finished with an outstanding time of 5min 26s. Next time the crew will race over the start line and not stop due to a slight misunderstanding of the river... Still, the second fastest M1 College crew on the river (Christ's) did not manage to take advantage of that and finished about 20s slower.

First men's boat
Louise Kay (cox), Sebastian Müller, Stéphane Forsik, Andreas Lintz, Esben Hegnsholt Olsen, Nicholas Smith, Nikon Rasumov, Jack Lawlor-Anderson, Richard Darby (Coach: John Martin)

Second men's boat
Olivia Lewis (cox), Hilary Powell, Torsten Krude, Jan-Niklas Keltsch, Konstantin Matthies, Andreas Christ, Miao Chen, Daniel Zerbino, Jim Fowler

A big thank you to our bank party, Rebecca and Claudia!

182th at the Head of the River Race
The second largest rowing event in the world, the Head of the River Race, took place on Saturday 21 March 2009 and Darwin first men's VIII was there! Every year, the HORR attracts 420 clubs, including the best clubs in the UK as well as several foreign clubs, that compete over 6.8 km on the Thames, during the ebb tide, from Mortlake to Putney.

Darwin started at position 347 out of 420 boats and, with a time of 19:36.86, finished at an impressive 183rd place among many top level international crews. They beat most of the other Cambridge crews e.g. Emmanuel, Magdalene, Jesus, Christ's, Selwyn, Churchill, King's, Sidney Sussex, Churchill, Anglia Ruskin, etc. This is the best result achieved by DCBC at the Head of the River Race since the club exists !

A big thank you to those who came to help, support and cheer us from Hammersmith Bridge!
