Fellowships at Darwin College (2009/2010)

Adrian Research Fellowship in Archaeology

The College is prepared, thanks to a generous donation from Trinity College, Cambridge, to elect a stipendiary Adrian Research Fellow, if a suitable candidate applies.

Candidates should be at a relatively early stage in their research careers. Candidates should have been awarded the PhD or an equivalent degree, and be able to present to the electors substantial amounts of written work of outstanding quality, published or unpublished. No candidate should have completed in total more than seven years of postgraduate research by 1 October 2010. Candidates should be engaged in research within the field of World Archaeology.

The Fellowship will run for three years from 1 October 2010.

Microsoft Research Fellowship

The Governing Body of Darwin College Cambridge, and Microsoft Research Limited jointly invite applications for a stipendiary Research Fellowship supporting research in the field of adaptive computing (including topics such as machine learning, probabalistic inference, and computer visions, as well as biomedical applications of these topics).

Men and women graduates of any university are eligible to apply, irrespective of age, provided they have a doctorate or an equivalently recognised qualification, or expect to have submitted a thesis before taking up the Fellowship.

The Fellowship will be tenable for two years commencing in October 2010 or on a date to be agreed.

Schlumberger Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship

The Governing Body of Darwin College, Cambridge, and Schlumberger Cambridge Research Limited jointly invite applications for a non-stipendiary Research Fellowship supporting interdisciplinary research, tenable at Darwin College, Cambridge and sponsored by Schlumberger Cambridge Research Limited.

Candidates' research interests may be in Chemistry, Physics, Geophysics, Mathematics, Engineering (including Chemical engineering) and Materials Science. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue interdisciplinary research across one or more fields of inquiry during the tenure of the fellowship and will be expected to organise seminars and meetings to promote innovative work across disciplinary boundaries. He or she may wish to establish close links with those working at Schlumberger Cambridge Research Limited. The Fellowship is open to men and women from any university, irrespective of age, without limitation of subject and is intended for outstanding researchers who are completing, or who have recently completed, their Ph.D. Degree. No candidate should have completed in total more than seven years of postgraduate research by 1 October 2010.

Research Fellowships

Darwin College is prepared to elect a number of non-stipendiary research fellows. The candidate who heads the list will be called the Charles and Katharine Darwin Research Fellow and will be entitled to an additional expense allowance specified below.

The Fellowships are open to men and women without limitation of subject. The Fellowships are intended for outstanding researchers who are completing, or who have recently completed, their Ph.D. Degree. No candidate should have completed in total more than seven years of postgraduate research by 1 October 2010.

The successful candidates will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the College, including the obligation to reside in Cambridge for at least two-thirds of each University term, unless excused by the Governing Body. They will become members of the Governing Body and will have Fellows' dining rights. A small allowance will be made available annually towards research expenses.

The Fellowship will run for three years from 1 October 2010.
